Pregnancy care
Pregnancy care
Your midwife in your corner for every question, every worry, every milestone.
London only · complementary to your NHS care

The why
Are you looking for more support than the standard maternity care at the hospital?
Do you feel you have no one to turn to with your worries?
In pregnancy, you shouldn't have to go searching for answers. Answers should come to you. We offer the continuity of the same midwife in the comfort of your home: the caring expert layer of care alongside hospital.
The gap
You deserve more time with your midwife.
Standard NHS care
The Motherhood Practice

The same midwife throughout
You shouldn't be a stranger.
When 4 in 5 women see a different midwife at every appointment, care can feel clinical and cold. You deserve someone who knows you and your history by heart, not just by your NHS number.
Caring for the whole you.
Pregnancy is as much a mental journey as a physical one. 1 in 4 mothers face emotional hurdles. Our continuity model lets your midwife notice subtle changes and address concerns early.
Space for your questions.
Standard care often feels like a race against the clock. Our hour-long visits ensure there is always space for your questions, your fears, and your joys.
Held from the start.
The first trimester can feel lonely while you wait for your first hospital appointment and first scan. We bridge that gap, providing expert care from day one, with optional scans and tests through our trusted providers.

How is this different from NHS antenatal care?
The biggest differences are continuity, time and convenience. In the UK, 4 out of 5 pregnant women never see the same midwife twice on the NHS. With us, you have one dedicated midwife throughout your entire pregnancy: someone who knows your history, your reactions, and your birth preferences. Midwife appointments take place at home, at times that suit you, and last 1 to 2 hours. This leaves you the time and space to ask your questions and include your partner in the journey. By contrast, NHS appointments take place at the hospital and last a maximum of 10 to 15 minutes, with less than 5 minutes to ask questions.
When should I start my antenatal care?
You can begin as early as your positive pregnancy test, or join us later in your pregnancy (until 36 weeks). The earlier you start, the better your midwife knows you, but it is never too late to join.
Is it covered by health insurance?
Some international private health insurance policies cover pregnancy-related care (e.g. Cigna or Allianz Global). We recommend checking with your provider, and we are happy to support any claims process.
Can my partner be involved?
Absolutely, and we actively encourage it. Partners are welcome at home visits and workshops, and the WhatsApp support line is there for their questions too. We find that when partners feel informed and included, the whole family navigates pregnancy and birth more confidently.
What happens at a home visit?
Each visit lasts around an hour and includes a full clinical check-up: blood pressure, weight, urine testing, and foetal wellbeing assessment. Your midwife then takes the time to listen to your concerns and answer any questions you've had since the last appointment. You are never rushed. Your midwife will also flag anything that needs escalating.
What if I have a complicated pregnancy or a high-risk condition?
Our midwives are experienced in supporting a wide range of pregnancy journeys. We work closely with NHS specialists and rapidly escalate concerns when needed. If your pregnancy is considered high-risk, we provide the dedicated advocacy and expertise needed to navigate the healthcare system and the emotional rollercoaster that often accompanies complex care. Your midwife ensures that even within a highly medicalised pathway, your voice is heard and your care remains deeply personal.
Is The Motherhood Practice antenatal care instead of, or in addition to, NHS care?
Think of us as an extra layer of expert support. Scans and blood tests still happen at the hospital, along with essential NHS appointments (booking and 36-week check-up). All other antenatal appointments are conducted in the comfort of your home by your dedicated midwife. At 36 weeks, we offer a formal medical handover to ensure your notes are comprehensive ahead of birth. This means your hospital records stay up to date while you receive the continuous midwife support and unhurried time that the NHS system simply cannot provide.
How much does an antenatal package cost?
Our antenatal packages vary from £1,500 to £2,500 depending on the trimester you join. Payments can be made in full or spread over three instalments.
What is included in the workshops?
Each package includes between 3 and 4 workshops covering: nutrition and lifestyle in pregnancy; birth plan; birth preparation techniques (breathing, relaxation, pain management); and postpartum and feeding.
